Virtual Winter Exhibition 2020
We live in challenging times. All our lives have been blighted by the COVID-19 pandemic in varying degrees.
It has been a difficult time for artists: the stress of lockdown has upset the rhythm of creative activity for many people, discretionary spending has plummeted and all the usual outlets for art sales vanished overnight back in March. The Richmond Art Society’s decades-long tradition of Summer and Winter Exhibitions has been interrupted for the first year in living memory.
A Message From Our Chairman
Here we are in our second lockdown and once again a Richmond Art Society physical exhibition has had to be cancelled. However I want to strike a note of optimism because hopefully this will be the last time, and we look forward to being able to gather together again for our next show in the summer of 2021. Not only that, but artists everywhere have found ways to carry on making work and getting it out into the world. Who’d have thought that life drawing on zoom would ever be a thing? The artist’s support pledge, online lectures, online exhibitions etc etc. Nothing will stop people from being creative. If anything, after the initial shock of the first lockdown, it has inspired even greater ingenuity. Here is our Winter Exhibition, as fine a collection from RAS members as you’ll see at any time.
Enjoy, and let’s look forward to good times ahead!
