Caroline Sayer
From Royal event management to professional gardening to art, Caroline has spent a decade exhibiting and selling work, recently discovering a passion for narrative ceramic sculpture.

Caroline Sayer spent many years in public relations and event management, working with major brands and organising Royal events. After having four children, she relocated from London and retrained as a professional gardener through the Royal Horticultural Society, establishing a successful gardening business and contributing to Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows.

Caroline has pursued art throughout her life, taking evening classes and maintaining a travel sketchbook. She began exhibiting and selling artwork approximately ten years ago, primarily focusing on the human figure and face while experimenting with various mediums including inks, watercolours, acrylics, cardboard, and magazine papers. “Mixing techniques and mediums means I never really know how my work is going to turn out.”

She created humorous paintings for a wedding invitation and wine label, then expanded this concept to paint local Richmond scenes. Two years before this profile, Caroline discovered sculpture as a new passion, creating narrative ceramic pieces with life models, incorporating animals and other storytelling elements. She completed ceramic hand-building courses and won a competition prize purchased by sculptor Raphael Maklouf.

Caroline joined the Richmond Art Society in 2011 and has assisted in organising exhibitions since 2012.
