After decades of painting watercolours intermittently while managing family and work obligations, Jim transitioned to full-time painting approximately 18 years ago. His career began memorably when his first sold work — a small watercolour from his world backpacking journey — fetched £15 at an art society exhibition.
Portree Harbour
A pivotal moment occurred when his wife arranged a studio visit with Richard Pikesley (now president of the New English Art Club) as a milestone birthday gift. This encounter deeply influenced his work, particularly inspiring his oil painting “Portree Harbour”.
