John Iddon describes himself as a “Featured Non-Artist” with a deep interest in art rather than artistic practice. His engagement with the art world began while lecturing at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill, where he directed an MA in Heritage Interpretation and visited students at the Peggy Guggenheim Gallery in Venice, which sparked his passion for modern art.
Mary Fedden Strawberry Hill
At St Mary’s, John organised an Arts and Heritage Summer School and Literary Society, hosting notable figures including poet Seamus Heaney and playwright Tom Stoppard. He facilitated visits from numerous Royal Academicians who painted Strawberry Hill, including Mary Fedden, Ruskin Spear, Donald Hamilton Fraser, and Quentin Blake.

After retiring, John pursued art dealing, initially representing Casson, Fedden, and Blake. In Richmond, he identified and sold works by local artists Anne Swankie, Jim Woodman, and Nataliya Zozulya. He served as auctioneer for Environment Trust for Richmond on Thames auctions and has been actively involved with Richmond Art Society.
